Critical Social AI Research Group
The Critical Social AI research group was founded in 2025 by graduate researchers and early career scholars at the National University of Singapore (NUS) to investigate how AI-based technologies are reconfiguring society and the way we study it. With members from both the Global North and the Global South, we organize discussion sessions, collaborate on research papers, and host events to enrich human-centered, interdisciplinary approaches to AI.
Our goals include:
- Developing and promoting best practices around the use of AI in research.
- Advocating for high-quality, “slow” scholarship facilitated by responsible AI usage.
- Participating in public debates on how AI development and deployment (re)produce uneven development, structural inequalities, and new forms of technological privilege.
